3D printing has been around since the 1980s. We are just now seeing an explosion of 3D printing because of the mass lifting of outdated patents on this technology. This technology is now widely supported by open source sharing and crowdfunding efforts.
Joan Horvath describes 3D printers as "motorized glue guns hovering over a flat platform." 3D printing can be used to build models of almost anything. Today, it is commonly used in retail, medical, visual arts, and even in the food and beverage industries.
With all this buzz going around, what are the basics we should know about 3D printing?
